Last week I mentioned an awesome lamp that I found but couldn't share because I was fixing it. Well here it is, all fixed up!
Aren't those fiber glass shades sexy?! Serisouly, I love this style of lamp and was so freakin' excited to find one at a reasonable price. The shades got bent up when the thrift shop taped them together so I had to work on them a bit and then bend the base back to shape. It mostly really needed to be rewired. It was kind of a pain because the socket had a special switch on it that fit through a hole in the cylinder part of the shade. Well they don't make those anymore and after much trial (I rewired this thing like four separate times) and error I realized I would have to put a cord on it with a rotary switch. That proved to be hard to find new so I just bought one at the thrift store, cut it and attached it to the new socket. I felt very handy after all that! I told my brother the electrician that I wanted to be paid an electricians wage to rewire lamps. Yeah, in my dreams!!!
Anyone need a beat up lid? |
Has your dear sweet fuzzy critter ever broken one of your awesome vintage finds?
I'm thinking that has a reward for being so good last week and getting things done, I'm going to go on a few good thrifting trips. Crossing my fingers for a BIG Pyrex score!
I'm joining the parties at Sir Thrift A Lot, Remnant, Mod Vintage Life, The Thrifty Groove, A Living Space, Ivy And Elephants, a new one over at Thriftables and Apron Thrift Girl. Have a great week everyone!
That lamp reminds me of a mushroom! Are you going to be keeping it or selling it? Seems to me it deserves a little fostering in your house for a while after all of your hard work bringing it back to life. HA!

Good luck on your thrifting adventures!
ReplyDeleteI've had furry little friends break a few things & do other interesting things to my thrifting finds. Little devils. You're lucky, you'll probably find 7 next week!
I've had several of those Pyrex cookie and cracker jars! Keep that lid - bc I always seem to find them without the lid!
ReplyDeleteThat is a very cool lamp! Nice job on the rewiring. I wouldn't even know where to start!!
ReplyDeletei loooooove those fibeglass lamps!
ReplyDeletei have three cats and they have barely broken anything, which is a surprise. the only thing I can think of is this beautiful sugar skull bride that my best friend brought me back from mexico. of COURSE it was something meaning full that can't be easily replaced!
That lamp is amazing, and I'm super impressed with your rewiring skills! My dog hasn't actually destroyed any of my vintage finds yet (shockingly), but he did once trip me which resulted in an armful of flying glass insulators. Sadly, most did not survive. ;)
ReplyDeleteLove that lamp! They are hard to find with the shades ar all, never mind in good shape. You turned it into a real beauty, good work!
ReplyDeleteWow, that lamp is amazing. Very impressed with your handy work too. Yes, my dog has gotten into a few items. Luckily, nothing of big value tho.
ReplyDeleteThat is a really great lamp and I am SO impressed with your wiring skills! No animals around my stuff unless I am coming from the car... although Nandi and Fro DID once break a candlestick from my Autumn table...hmmm.
ReplyDeleteGreat lamp and I am so impressed with your rewiring skills. I need to pay you to fix a lamp in my house. My electronical engineer husband has not done it! Poor kitty, he did not mean it...
ReplyDeleteI'm also very impressed with your rewiring skills! I've never tried something like that. I hope you have a great week and find some amazing thrifty things! Pyrex is getting few and far between, but I'll cross my fingers for you!
ReplyDeleteErica :)
Oh man, that lamp is super adorable. Good for you for taking on the task of rewiring it. I always say I will with vintage lamps, then inevitably don't. Have my fingers crossed that I won't start any fires :-) Nice haul and thanks for linking up!
ReplyDeleteGreat lamp. It's a wonder someone even donated that to a thrift store and didn't try to sell it on ebay! I have found some fiberglass shades and bases separately, never something that cool all at once. I have an electrician brother too; I asked him to rewire a lamp for me once and it took him over a year- from then on, I did them all myself LOL!
ReplyDeleteI love the lamp. I mean I really LOVE what you found! Come show off your creativity with us at Craft Frenzy Friday. Visit us at http://obsessiveandcreative.blogspot.com
ReplyDeleteWe can't wait to see you!
Kudos to you for re-wiring your lamp! I wouldn't have the first clue how to do it! And yes, my cat has broken several things of mine, the most traumatic being a beautiful 1940s chalkware bust. I love it so much that I actually still have it displayed even though there a few chunks missing from it now!
ReplyDeleteI just had to comment because I almost bought a cracker barrel jar just like yours last week- but it was missing the lid- so I left it behind.
