Friday Wrap Up in Instagrams

I'm taking an idea from a few blogger friends(Danavee, among others) and finishing off the week with a few instagrams because...I've crossed over to the cool kids side (as far as apps are concerned) and now I really really like Instagram!  I'm still not sure about the crazy filters but I'm a photo lover at heart and can't resist it, so here are a few from the past month. 

Scary kitty wants your soul!

 My new kitchen chalk board art.  I LOVE it!!!  

I found a fabulous vintage leather jacket.  This one fits like it was made for me.  Hurry it up fall weather, this jacket NEEDS to be worn!

 Check out those creepy eyes.  I'm not sure what is scarier...the eyes or that someone wanted $95 for her.

I totally thought this was just a bag of vintage fabric yoyos.  Then I pulled it out of the bag and found a head attached to them.  Not just any head, a scary clown head!  What on earth is the point of this thing?!

Shelves full of heads.  That would make an interesting collection.

I scored some great vintage dresses.  The last one doesn't fit. : ( I either have to get it tailored or wear a corset girdle thing, and that is NOT happening!

And my soggy neighborhood.  Enough with the rain Colorado!  I know I was asking for it a few months ago, but we're over it!

What I Didn't Get and A Booth Update

I still haven't had a chance to organize and photograph any of my haul from the other day but I do have a few bad cell phone pictures of things I didn't get.  Excuse the poor quality.  The lighting was bad in the closet and I was trying to hurry so as to not take up any more of my cousins time.  I was just so thankful to have a chance to look at it all.  His mother was a trend follower for sure!  She had some AMAZING stuff that I didn't even get to photograph.

We'll start with the shoes.  Not in my wildest giant footed dreams would they have fit me!  She wore a size 5 up to a size 7.  That just won't cut it for my clodhoppers!  I also look like a truck driver wearing heels when I wear anything higher than an inch...but still, aren't these pretty?!!
Are you lucky enough to have little feet that fit fabulous vintage shoes? I never see cute old shoes in a size 9! 

These were gorgeous too  I'm sad that the picture I took of the box didn't turn out.  It had cute little polka dotted kitties on it.

VaVaVOOM!

I really really loved these!  They are wood and super cute and had they been a bit bigger they would have totally come home with me.  Would any of these lovely pairs of shoes have come home with you?

This purse also almost came home with me but logic won on this one.  What the heck would I do with it?  I'm trying so hard to not just buy stuff because I think it's pretty.  Damn being responsible...grumble grumble.

This yellow Sunday dress was to die for!  It was perfect in every way.  Again, I can't just buy it because it's one of the most beautiful vintage dresses I've seen in a LONG time...  I actually don't think it would have fit anyway.  She was a skinny chick back in the day!

That's all I have of the clothes and shoes other than the dresses I bought - those were posted those on my Instagram.  It was so much fun to look at such a wide variety of fashions in one place.  I don't know her (she's 90 and still kicking hard) but I can tell that she enjoyed fashion and took pride in what she wore.   

The booth has been a bit slow the past few days, but that is partly my fault.  I let it go for a tad too long without floofing so it was a mess when I got there.  I added a few things and cleaned up the joint so hopefully sales will perk up now.

Wanted Wednesday - Stain Removal Tips

If you follow me on Instagram then you have already seen my sweet new collection of vintage dresses.  A super generous and cool family member was cleaning out his mother's house and said I could come look at the "donate pile" before it went out.  More on that sweet little haul later!  He also had some of her clothes, shoes and purses that he wanted to sell.  I took a look and came back with a few beauties.  I would have also  had a new vintage shoe collection if her feet had been just a bit bigger.  CURSE you giant feet!  

Anyway, one of the dresses he gave to me because it was stained.  

We took these last night in cruddy light when I got home so I used an Instagram filter to fancy up the photo.  This one fits the best out of all four dresses.  The darts (I think that's what they are called) are a little strange for one who isn't used to them, but otherwise I really like it.  Imagine it with a red petticoat underneath...vintage heaven!  

It's pretty dang stained in a few places and yucky in the underarm area.  So here's my question:  How do I safely get rid of the stains?  Am I going to ruin the dress trying to clean it?  Any tips and suggestions would be hugely appreciated.  Danavee suggested soaking in Woolite.

What other little laundry miracles do you guys have hidden up your sleeves?!

Thrift Haul - Vintage Halloween!

What the heck is going on with the vintage Halloween stuff online?!  Holy cow...it's so expensive!!!  I was scrolling through eBay the other night in search of a good deal but just ended up CRANKY.  Ugh!  I found one set of cool cake toppers on Etsy that were priced well, but otherwise, non-thrifted vintage Halloween is too rich for my blood.  I'm going to scour the Fall/Halloween shelves at my trusty thrifts! 

These cute old paper horns are a bit rough, but they'll make for fun decorations.  And look at my luck!  A week after Little Cat broke my Cracker Barrel jar, I found a Pyrex Cookie Jar.  Sweet!

These honeycomb pumpkins were in two separate junk bags and are my first Beistle find. I'm going to keep them and I'm dying to put them out.  When do you guys put out your Fall decorations?

Not Halloween, but still cool.  Don't these guys make you feel like you're back in elementary school?  I swear my school had these and used them to death.   They say 1976 Beistle.  

I found some non-Halloween stuff too.  Check out that Designs bowl!  I've never seen it in the wild before and jumped on it fast.  I want to keep it, but will be taking it to the booth. : ( That was the highlight of a trip down to Pueblo.  The Denver and New Orleans sugar bags are destined for a craft project and the other Pyrex pieces are heading to my neglected booth.  I'm not sure what to do with the math flash cards yet.  Any suggestions?

I love this lamp.  It kind of reminds of a lizard or bug...  Anyway, the glasses are Georges Briard and they match this super cool pitcher I found a few weeks ago.  I'll be listing them as a set on Etsy later this week.  

This mid century votive candle holder is on it's way to the booth soon.  It's in such good shape, hopefully some one scoops it up fast.

What the heck did I buy this thing for?  It's not really the style of things I put in the booth and I don't have much of a use for it but for some reason my brain screamed "BUY IT!!!"   Maybe I'll make it into a planter.  Damn brain...

And last but not least, The Grandma gave me a bundle of colored pencils and this little gem was in it.  I wanted to share it with others who would find it amusing and understand my excitement.  I put the regular sized pencil next to it so you could see it was a mini one.  How stinking cute is that?!  It's the little things sometimes...

THANK YOU for all the nice comments about our bathroom!  We love it, but sometimes it's just nice to know that other people like our choices.  We have to sell the dang house someday after all!

Our Bathroom Remodel

So we started this project in February of this year and pretty much finished up around the middle of April (I'm a bit late on the reveal : ).  This bathroom was the very worst part of our house (and our house was in pretty rough shape) when we bought it a few years ago.  Terrible!  I can't seem to find any of my before pictures but I can quickly describe it.  One wall was covered in blue super crooked glass mosaic tile.   When they needed to cut a tile they didn't, they just painted the space blue.  It was ridiculous!  The previous owners installed a shower insert thing, but didn't do it right so it ended up sitting 6 inches off the ground and leaked like crazy.  We never even used it.  It doesn't sound that bad, but just trust me, it was!

Isn't it dreamy?!  I have it on good authority that this is a crazy awesome shower.  Can you believe I still haven't used it yet?  The tile in here is my favorite thing about this bathroom.  The glass combined with the flat stones is stunning.  And I'll toot my own horn here...I picked it out!  We moved out a wall and the floor drain here to make the shower larger.  Our friend is a plumber so he helped us do a lot of this work.  He is the reason we did this in the first place.  We thought it was a lost cause, but he suggested bumping out the wall and expanding the shower.  I'll inflate his ego a bit, he totally saved the day!

This fabulous towel rack is an Etsy purchase that The Mom found.  The colors match everything perfectly.

I wish I could get better pictures of the vanity.  I need a wide angle lens for that though.  It is a simple one piece purchase from Lowe's.  And the toilet paper holder I bought at Junk Bonanza fits right in!  It's a vintage golf club, and I'm telling you, if it fit in my golfing Mother-in-Law's suitcase she would have stolen it!

And I love my little Ikea shelves!  Gotta have a place to put a few vintage dodads.  I'm still working a bit on the decoration part, but so far I like it.  

So that is our new basement bathroom.  We (mostly The Husband!) did a lot of the work ourselves but also had some really great contractors.   I LOVE how it turned out.  So much so that I get a little depressed when I go into my boring master bathroom and remember that this lovely space is downstairs.  What do you guys think?!

Wanted Wednesday - Glowing Light

The Best Bud and I took a mini road trip down to Pueblo today to do a bit of thrifting/antiquing and goofing off with the kiddos.   We saw all kinds of awesome things but one item has been burned deeply into my brain.




How cool is this light?!  It's woven with rubbery string and would probably glow beautifully when lit.  I should have bought it...I might go back for it... I really don't need another light...UGH!!!!! 

Thrift Haul - Better Luck Next Week

I kept true to what I said and didn't thrift much this week.  I got stuff organized, cleaned, photographed and some of it listed.  It really is true that if love your Etsy shop it will love you back because I've had three sales in three days since I started adding items again.  Yay!!!!  

Last week I mentioned an awesome lamp that I found but couldn't share because I was fixing it.  Well here it is, all fixed up!

Aren't those fiber glass shades sexy?!  Serisouly, I love this style of lamp and was so freakin' excited to find one at a reasonable price.  The shades got bent up when the thrift shop taped them together so I had to work on them a bit and then bend the base back to shape.  It mostly really needed to be rewired.  It was kind of a pain because the socket had a special switch on it that fit through a hole in the cylinder part of the shade.  Well they don't make those anymore and after much trial (I rewired this thing like four separate times) and error I realized I would have to put a cord on it with a rotary switch.  That proved to be hard to find new so I just bought one at the thrift store, cut it and attached it to the new socket.  I felt very handy after all that!  I told my brother the electrician that I wanted to be paid an electricians wage to rewire lamps.  Yeah, in my dreams!!!

Anyone need a beat up lid?

I did find this super cool Cracker Barrel Jar.  It's my first one, but apparently it wasn't meant to be because my Little Cat knocked it off the counter within a few hours of my having it.  Now all I left of it is a bad phone picture and a crumbling lid. : ( 

Has your dear sweet fuzzy critter ever broken one of your awesome vintage finds?

I'm thinking that has a reward for being so good last week and getting things done, I'm going to go on a few good thrifting trips.  Crossing my fingers for a BIG Pyrex score!
